专利说明:
"Cigarette making machine with tamper blocking mechanism" Field of the invention This invention generally relates to a cigarette manufacturing machine. More particularly, this invention relates to an injector type cigarette making machine with tamper blocking mechanism. Prior art of the invention Injector type cigarette making machines are well known. As described and shown in U.S. Patent No. 2,731,971 issued to Kastner for "Cigarette Making Machine" on January 24, 1956, such machines compress a portion of bulk tobacco equivalent to a cigarette and then inject the tobacco portion. compressed in a preformed cigarette tube. As is known, conventional injector type cigarette making machines include a crank arm that the user moves to operate the machine (i.e., compressing the bulk tobacco and then injecting the bulk tobacco). tablet), a tobacco chamber in which loose tobacco is inserted and a tobacco squeezer (also known in the art as the tamper or knife, hereinafter referred to as the tamper) which is coupled to the crank arm for the translational movement in the tobacco chamber which causes the compression of the loose tobacco following the movement of the crank arm. The preformed vacuum tube is held by a pipe clamp at one end of a hollow nipple, which is in communication with the tobacco chamber during compression and injection of the tobacco portion. As soon as the compressed tobacco is totally injected into the preformed cigarette tube (i.e. by moving the compressed tobacco from the tobacco chamber through the hollow nipple and into the tube), the tube clamp releases the tube filled with hollow nipple so that the cigarette can be smoked or stored for later smoking. Although these conventional machines have achieved considerable commercial success, a problem with these machines lies in the fact that often it is difficult for a user to load the machine because the tamper can not be held in its fully retracted position without the intervention of the user. Therefore, to load a conventional machine with loose tobacco, the user typically maintains the crank arm in its initial position with one hand while filling the tobacco receiving chamber with the other hand. As can be appreciated, this technique of loading tobacco is not convenient and takes more time that the user can not freely use both hands to load the tobacco in the machine. In addition, when using the aforementioned technique, there is a possibility that the user may unintentionally pinch the fingers of the hand loading the machine if their other hand holding the crank arm was to accidentally move the crank arm. To this end, an injector-type cigarette making machine with a tamper blocking mechanism that securely holds the tamper in its fully retracted position could be an important improvement in the art. Brief summary of the invention There is provided a tobacco injection type cigarette making machine which includes a tamper blocking mechanism. In one aspect, the tamper blocking mechanism provides an improvement in securely locking the tamper in its fully retracted position to facilitate fast and safe loading of the machine with loose tobacco. The machine comprises: a housing with an upper surface having a slot; a compacting chamber within the housing, the slot being in communication with and defining an opening of the compaction chamber; a tamper disposed in the compaction chamber, the tamper reciprocating between a forward position in which the loose tobacco is compressed and a fully retracted position in which the compaction chamber is fully accessible for filling with the loose tobacco; a crank arm coupled with the tamper, a rotation of the crank arm between an initial position and an intermediate position causing the tamper to move between the fully retracted position and the forward position; a hollow nipple configured on the housing near the slot, the hollow nipple being in communication with the compacting chamber; and a tamper lock mechanism within the housing, the tamper lock mechanism securely holding the tamper in the fully retracted position when the crank arm is positioned in the home position. In another aspect, the tamper locking mechanism provides an improvement in facilitating the secure and immediate clamping of the paper tube on the hollow nipple as the crank arm is moved from its initial position. In one embodiment, the tamper lock mechanism includes an engaging portion with the tamper, which has an apex that is urged against the tamper side to releasably interengage with the shoulder or the protuberance on the side of the tamper. In another embodiment, the tamper blocking mechanism includes a tamper engaging portion, which is retained by a generally U or C shaped restraining portion that constrains a vertex of the delivery portion. taken with the tamper to come into contact with the tamper side. Brief description of the drawings Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of an example of an injector type cigarette making machine with a tamper lock mechanism; Fig. 2 shows an inside view of the machine of the Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows a close-up view of one embodiment of the tamper blocking mechanism; Fig. 4 shows a close-up view of another embodiment of the tamper blocking mechanism; and Fig. 5 shows a close-up view of a pipe clamp which cooperates with the tamper lock mechanism. detailed description Referring now to the figures, there is provided an injector-type cigarette making machine with tamper lock mechanism. As shown in FIG. 1, an exemplary embodiment of the cigarette making machine 100 is of the injector type in which a portion of loose tobacco for a single cigarette is compacted in a compaction chamber and is then injected into a preformed paper cigarette tube. . The machine 100 includes a crank arm 110 which a user moves to operate the machine 100. As is known in the art, by moving the crank arm 110 to an initial position (i.e. loading) in an intermediate position, the portion of loose tobacco is compressed. Further, by moving the crank arm 110 from the intermediate position (i.e., pressing the tobacco) to a final position, the compressed portion of loose tobacco is injected into the preformed paper cigarette tube. As shown, the illustrated embodiment of the machine 100 comprises a casing 120 of generally circular shape with a top surface and a generally annular shaped side surface that extends between the upper surface and the lower surface of the machine 100. In As such, the generally annular upper surface and side surface of the housing 120 define an interior cavity for enclosing movable component parts which will be discussed hereinafter. The housing 120 may be made of any suitable material such as metal, plastic, etc. Indeed, although the illustrated embodiment 100 has a housing 120 of generally circular shape, the machine could be configured differently, for example, to have a generally parallelepiped-shaped housing, etc. Although not shown, the machine 100 may include a base defining a bottom surface of the housing 120. The base may be removably attached to a lower portion of the housing 120 or protuberances on a support member (170 Fig. 2) for the purpose of giving access to mobile component parts to facilitate cleaning, maintenance, repair, etc. The base may be made of any suitable material but it is preferred that the base be made of a non-slip material such as rubber or the like to minimize the movements (eg, slippage) of the machine 100 on a surface during use. As further shown in FIG. 1, the upper surface of the housing 120 includes a slot 130 which defines an opening in the compaction chamber 140, wherein the loose tobacco is inserted and then compressed. A tamper 150 of generally flat shape with a concave face 152 is disposed in the compaction chamber 140 for compressing loose tobacco inserted into a generally cylindrical tobacco member. A hollow nipple 160 is configured to protrude at least partially through the generally annular sidewall of the housing 120 near the slot 130. The hollow nipple 160 is in communication with the compaction chamber 140 so that a hollow paper cigarette tube which is placed on the hollow nipple 160 can receive the generally cylindrical compressed tobacco element. As will be discussed below, a tube clamp (180 Fig. 2) blocks the paper tube on the hollow nipple 160 during compression and injection of the tobacco. The tamper 150 reciprocates in the compaction chamber 140 between a fully retracted position and a compaction position in relation to the movement of the crank arm 110. In more detail, when the crank arm 110 is in the initial position (As shown in Fig. 1), the tamper 150 is in the fully retracted (i.e., back translation) position to allow loading of the compaction chamber 140 with tobacco. When the crank arm 110 is moved from the initial position to an intermediate position, the tamper 150 advances to compress the loose tobacco inserted against a stationary concave wall in the compaction chamber 140. Then, when the crank arm 110 is moved from the intermediate position to a final position, the tamper 150 remains generally stationary and an injector translates through the compaction chamber 140 and the hollow nipple 160 to inject the compressed tobacco into the blocked paper cigarette tube. on the nipple 160. By moving the crank arm 110 from the end position through the intermediate position to the initial position, the injector is retracted into the interior cavity so that the finished cigarette can be removed from the hollow nipple 160, and the tamper is brought back to prepare the machine 100 to make another cigarette. Turning now to Fig. 2, which shows the internal components, the machine 100 is described therein. As shown in FIG. 2, the machine 100 comprises a support member 170 on which various internal components (elements designated in Fig. 2 by 140, 150, 160, 170, 180, 190, 200) are mounted, coupled, attached, connected or formed from each other. one piece with this one. The internal drive components 190 that couple the crank arm 110 with the tamper for reciprocating movement and that inject the compressed tobacco into the paper tube are well known and, therefore, are discussed briefly. Accordingly, portions of the aforementioned U.S. Patent No. 2,731,971, issued to Kastner for "Cigarette Making Machine" on January 24, 1956, relating to toggle joints, links, cam, axle, arms and a piston are incorporated by reference herein. As is further shown, the machine 100 includes an improvement constituted by a tamper blocking mechanism. An embodiment of the tamper lock mechanism shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 is designated 200, while another embodiment of the tamper lock mechanism shown in FIG. 4 (and which will be described later) is designated 300. As shown in FIG. 2, the tamper 150 is interposed between the tube clamp 180 which blocks the paper cigarette tube on the hollow nipple 160 and the tamper blocking mechanism 200. The tamper 150 has a first side or a first longitudinal side 152 (shown in FIG. in Fig. 1) which is concave, a second longitudinal side 154 (best illustrated in Fig. 5) which is parallel to the first longitudinal side 152 and connected to the inner drive components 190. In addition, the tamper 150 includes third and fourth sides 156, 158 which are perpendicular to the first and second longitudinal sides 152, 154 and extend therebetween. As shown, the side 158 of the tamper 150 faces the pipe clamp 180, while the side 156 faces the tamper blocking mechanism 200. As will be understood from Figs. 3 - 5 and according to the following description, tamper blocking mechanism 200, 300 securely holds tamper 150 in its fully retracted position to facilitate loading of tobacco chamber 140 with loose tobacco and for avoid accidental pinching injuries during the loading process. As shown in FIG. 3, tamper lock mechanism 200 includes a base portion 210 connected to or integrally formed with support member 170. The base portion 210 includes a first retainer 212 and a second retainer 214 which is generally parallel to the first retainer 212 and a mirror image thereof. An engaging member with the tamper 200 includes a generally rectangular hollow frame 222, configured between the retainers 212, 214 and slidably movable on the support member 170 relative to these retainers 212, 214. An engaging portion with the tamper 224, generally triangular in shape, is connected to one side or is integrally formed with one side of the frame 222 facing the tamper, particularly the side 156 including the tamper. shoulder 157 which may alternatively be a protuberance 157 '(Fig. 4). The tamper engaging portion 224, of generally triangular shape, extends between the retaining members 212, 214 beyond the ends thereof to contact the side 156 of the tamper 150. As such is further shown, the tamper engaging mechanism 220 includes a biasing member 230 which urges an apex 226 of the engaging portion 224 against the tamper 156. The apex 226 is configured, particularly to releasably interfere with the shoulder 157, thereby preventing the tamper 150 from moving from its fully retracted position shown in FIG. 3 in the compacting position as indicated by the arrow designated "C" which represents the movement of tamper 150 to the compaction position. The biasing member 230 causes the tamper engaging member 220 to function as a cam follower against the side 156. As such, the bias member 230, as shown, includes a portion of anchor 232 which is generally stationary and configured within the frame 222 on the support member 170 (i.e. connected thereto or integrally formed therewith). The constraint member 230 further includes a spring 234 extending between the anchor portion 232 and the frame side 222 from which the tamper engaging portion 224 extends. Although a spring 234 is shown, other resilient, elastomeric or shape-deformable resilient means known in the art may alternatively be used. In this way, the tamper engaging member 220 is slidably pushed along the surface of the support member 170 and brought into contact with the side 156. Therefore, to move the tamper 150 to its fully retracted position shown in FIG. 3 in its compaction position (as indicated by the arrow indicated by "C"), the user of the machine 100 must exert sufficient force on the crank arm 110 so that the shoulder 157 brings the engaging the tamper 220 to move to the left (as shown) against the bias of the counter member 230. When the top 226 and the shoulder engage with each other or disengage from each other. From one another, the tamper blocking mechanism 200 can provide a sensory indication to the user such as a tactile / haptic feel or an audible "pop", "snap", or "click". In this way, the user is provided with a reliable indication that the tamper 150 is positioned and is held in its fully retracted position so that the loading of the tobacco chamber 140 can be done without danger. Another embodiment 300 of the tamper blocking mechanism is shown in FIG. 4. As shown in FIG. 4, tamper blocking mechanism 300 includes a generally stationary retaining portion 310 connected to or integrally formed with support member 170. The retaining portion 310 has a base portion 312 and generally parallel side portions 314, 316 which extend generally perpendicular from the ends of the base portion 312. In this manner, the retaining portion 310 has a generally U-shaped or C-shaped configuration. An engaging portion of the tamper 320 includes a generally pentagonal shaped body with an apex 322. The engaging portion of the tamper 320 is configured between the portions 314, 316 generally parallel and can be moved toward and away from the base portion 312. The tamper engaging portion 320 is configured to have a length (i.e., a distance between the 322 and a planar side near the inner surface of the base member 312) which is substantially similar or slightly larger than a distance between the side 156 and the In this way, the retaining portion 310 and the tamper engaging portion 320 cooperate to constrain the apex 322 and push it against the side 156. The apex 322 is configured, in particular, to releasably interfere with the protuberance 157 ', thereby preventing the tamper 150 from moving from its fully retracted position shown in FIG. 4 in the compacting position as indicated by the arrow designated "C" which represents the movement of tamper 150 to the compaction position. Therefore, to move the tamper 150 from its fully retracted position shown in FIG. 4 in its compacting position (as indicated by the arrow indicated by "C"), the user of the machine 100 must exert sufficient force on the crank arm 110 so that the protrusion 157 'brings the engaging the tamper 320 to move to the left (as shown) against the base portion of the retaining portion 310. As in the previous embodiment, when the apex 322 and the protrusion 157 'engage with each other. with each other or disengage from each other, tamper blocking mechanism 300 may provide sensory indication to the user such as a tactile / haptic feel or a "pop", "snap" or "click" audible. In this way, the user is provided with a reliable indication that the tamper 150 is positioned and is held in its fully retracted position so that the loading of the tobacco chamber 140 can be done without danger. As can be appreciated, the pressure of the tamper blocking mechanisms 200, 300 against the tamper 150 requires a user to exert a predetermined force on the crank arm 110 to initiate the movement of the tamper 150 and take it out of its fully retracted position. The predetermined force exerted by the user on the crank arm 110 must, in particular, be sufficient to overcome the tight fit between the apex 226 or 322 and the shoulder 157 or the protuberance 157 ', thereby forcing the shoulder 157. or the protrusion 157 'beyond the top 226 or 322 against the stress. Therefore, tamper lock mechanisms 200, 300 prevent inadvertent or inadvertent movement of crank arm 110 and tamper 150 so that tobacco chamber 140 can be quickly and safely loaded with loose tobacco. Referring now to FIG. 5, an additional feature of the machine 100 having tamper lock mechanism 200, 300 is described therein. As will be appreciated, since the tamper blocking mechanism 200, 300 and the tube clamp 180 both engage the tamper 150 (particularly its sides 156 and 154 respectively), the machine 100 has an advantage. additional that is to securely and immediately tighten the paper tube on the hollow nipple 160 at the moment the crank arm 110 is moved from its initial position. As shown in FIG. 5, the pipe clamp 180 comprises a pipe clamp base 181 which is connected to or integrally formed with the support member 170. The pipe clamp base 181, as shown, is generally perpendicular to the hollow nipple 160 to generally align a pipe clamp member 182 to the hollow nipple 160 and to facilitate reciprocating movement forward and backward of the element. As further shown, the tubular greenhouse member 182 comprises a generally rectangular hollow frame 184 formed between the tube holder base 181 and the compacting chamber 140 and which can be slidably movable on the support member 170. An engaging projection with the tamper 185 is connected to a first side or formed integrally with a first side of the frame 184 away from the hollow nipple 160 In addition, a tube clamping portion 186 is connected to a second side or is formed integrally with a second side of the frame 184 which is opposite the first side of the frame 184 (having the projection of engaged with the tamper 185) and close to the hollow nipple 160. The pipe clamp member 182 as shown further includes a pipe clamp member 187. The pipe clamp member 187 is configured within the frame 184 and includes a spring 188 and a anchor 189 which is generally stationary and configured on the support member 170 (i.e. connected thereto or integrally formed therewith). Although a spring 188 is shown, other resilient, elastomeric or shape-deformable resilient means known in the art may alternatively be used. The spring 188 extends between the anchor 189 and the side of the frame 184 from which the tube clamp portion 186 extends. In this way, the frame 184 is forced by the spring to move away from the anchor 187 so that the tube clamping portion 186 is slidably pushed against the hollow nipple 160. As shown, the constraint member of Tube clamp 187 causes the engaging projection with tamper 185 to act as a cam follower which maintains contact with side 154 of tamper 150. In use, when the crank arm 110 is moved from the initial position such that the tamper 150 is in its fully retracted position (for example to allow the user to load the tobacco chamber 140 with loose tobacco) the pipe clamp member 182 and the tube clamping portion 186 are spaced apart or disengaged from the hollow nipple 160 by the side 154 so that the spring 188 is compressed and the user can, therefore, place a tube In addition, when the machine 100 is in its loading state maintained by the tamper lock mechanism (i.e., the crank arm 110 is in the initial position and the tamper 150 is in the fully retracted position), the spring 189 is released or decompressed at the moment the crank arm 110 is moved from its initial position (i.e., overcoming the stress of the tamper lock mechanism 200 , 300 ) so that the engaging projection with the tamper 185 moves into the position 185 'shown in dashed lines to maintain contact with the side 154. Therefore, the tube clamp portion 186 moves to the position 186 which is also shown in broken lines, where the tube clamping portion 186 is in intimate contact with the hollow nipple 160 to lock the paper tube thereon. As described and shown, the tamping blocking mechanism 200, 300, the tamper 150 and the pipe clamp 180 cooperate to allow secure jamming of the tamper 150 and secure clamping of the pipe clamp 180. Various embodiments of the invention are described herein. It should be understood that the illustrated embodiments are presented by way of example only and should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention.
